Pink Floyd have sued EMI, the music company in control of the band's entire catalog.
The band claims the label has violated their contract, signed in 1999, which stated no individual tracks were to be resold seperate from the albums they were recorded for. Well, that was before a little thing called iTunes.
EMI claims the contract was signed before the online .mp3 market became such a viable business. Therefore the particular section in question is rendered null and void.
Robert Howe, the band's lawyer appeared in court today on behalf ot the band. Stating "Pink Floyd are well-known for performing seamless pieces." Taking the songs out of context would render the artistic meaning behind the songs well... meaningless.
Pink Floyd is the label's second most profitable back catalog after The Beatles.
