The Decade in Events (The Good Pt. 2)

Slim Shady Jams with Elton at the Grammys
Eminem has never been a stranger to controversy. However when his second, and most masterful, album The Marshall Mathers LP was released in 2000 things hit a fever pitch.
When the record was nominated for Best Album of the Year at the 2001 Grammy Awards, gay and lesbian advocacy group, GLAAD, protested the ceremony citing lyrics the group claimed were "homophobic".
Slim Shady tried to show how open minded he really was when he asked openly gay piano man Elton John to perform with him on "Stan" live at the awards. While GLAAD still wasn't pleased, much of the criticism over Marshall Mather's character were dropped. Yeah he's a controversial entertainer, but Eminem is aware that there is no such thing as bad press. People were curious what all the fuss was about and helped The Marshall Mather LP sell over 7 million copies in 2000.

DJ Danger Mouse Marries Jay-Z & The Beatles
DJ Danger Mouse, now famous for producing Gorillaz, The Black Keys, Beck and making up half of Gnarls Barkley, first gained recognition when he mashed lyrics from Jay-Z's Black Album with The Beatles White Album to make The Grey Album an underground sensation.
Sure the major labels didn't like the idea because they lost money and Danger Mouse did violate copyright laws, but thanks to the Internet and file sharing this oddball experiment gained popularity and became one of the most successful unofficial releases of all time.

U2 Plays Super Bowl XXXVI Halftime Show
A little under 5 months after 9/11 left America reeling, U2 became America's adopted home band when they took the stage at Super Bowl XXXVI and helped the country's wounds heal by playing the most masterful halftime show ever.

The most touching moment during the Irish rocker's 3 song set came when the band displayed the names of those who perished during the attack while effortlessly playing "Where the Streets Have No Name".
Bono also launched into a portion of the Beatles classic "All You Need is Love" at the end of the song before displaying an American flag sown on the inside of his jacket. Even 8 years after the fact, this performance still moves me. Bono sang a song that described how everyone was feeling - lost and looking for hope.
