100 Best Albums of the Decade: 100-91

100: The Gutter Twins - Saturnalia (2008)
Two of rock's most under sung journeymen - Greg Dulli of The Afghan Whigs and Mark Lagegan of The Screaming Trees - teamed up to form The Gutter Twins and recorded this hauntingly gothic, yet romantically subtle album filled with religious over tones and doomsday prophecy.Top Tunes: (God's Children, Idle Hands, Who Will Lead Us)

99: U2 - No Line On The Horizon (2009)
U2 always dwell on the bigger picture. Sure their songs might seem overly grandiose at times but their tunes tend to reflect gradiose themes. On No Line Bono and company dwell on God, human nature, modern times and how it all connects in the end. U2 still can't find the peace of mind they are looking for, but the sound of them trying still brings forth fruit. Top Tunes: (I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight,Moment Of Surrender, Breathe)

98: Weezer - Weezer (The Green Album) (2001)
The Green Album was the first album Weezer had made in almost 5 years. The time off let these California guys get rejuvenated and make the best album they made the entire decade. While it may not be spectacular and awkwardly classic like their 90s work, Weezer still made being so out of place look so effortless. Top Tunes: (Hash Pipe, Island In The Sun, Don't Let Go)

97: Mayer Hawthorne - A Strange Arrangement (2009)
A Jewish white boy trying to be the next Al Green is almost never a good thing. However Mayer Hawthorne isn't your average Caucasian. He's filled to the brim with sadness over a lost love and armed to the teeth with nu-soul jams and carefully crafted pop hooks. It's not just music. It's therapy. Top Tunes: (Maybe So Maybe No, Your Easy Lovin' Ain't Pleasin' Nothin',The Ills)

96: Shiny Toy Guns - We Are Pilots (2006)
Is it a tad too retro? I suppose. But isn't Jack White guilty of the same crime? Blending Depeche Mode with The Cure and sprinkling some Daft Punk and LCD Soundsystem here and there adds up to glorious results. Too bad the band self destructed and fell by the wayside with last year's disappointing Season of Poison. Top Tunes: (Chemistry Of A Car Crash, Rainy Monday, You Are The One)

95: Alicia Keys - Songs In A Minor (2001)
If Stevie Wonder wasn't blind and wasn't a man... so basically not Stevie Wonder, he would be Alicia Keys. Songs In A Minor lays the foundation for the rest of Keys' career which has been far less memorable than her 2001 debut which is filled with soft ballads and soul power a plenty. One of the few "buzzworthy" artists MTV ever had that deserved the buzz. Top Tunes: (Fallin' , A Woman's Worth, How Come You Don't Call Me)

94: Lil' Wayne - Tha Carter II (2005)
Every rapper has claimed to be the best thing since bread came sliced. You can call yourself whatever you want, just be ready to back it up. Lil' Wayne's boasts start to come to fruition with his second album in the Carter trilogy. Wayne keeps his promise on the album to follow as well.... Top Tunes: (Money On My Mind, Hit Em Up, Get Over)

93: Mark Lanegan - Bubblegum (2004)
Mark Lanegan never remains static. I think he carries all his belongings in a leather trunk that he lugs around where ever he travels. First a vocalist for the Screaming Trees and later a cohort with Queens of the Stone Age, Bubblegum is Lanegan standing on his own and showing how powerful and rugged he can be in his own right. Preach On Brutha! Top Tunes: (When Your Number Isn't Up, Wedding Dress, Morning Glory Wine)

92: Nelly - Country Grammar (2000)
The 90s were all about east coast vs. west coast rap. Nelly came along at the turn of the century and proved that even midwesterners could have some street cred. His flow was fast paced and his groove a unique mix of both east and west coast hip hop. Nelly later found a way to kill his career when he recorded the epically terrible duet with Tim McGraw "Over and Over Again".Top Tunes: (Country Grammar, Ride Wit Me, E.I.)

91: Green Day - Warning (2000)
Before Green Day started wearing mascara on a permanent basis they were still just a bunch of white guys with acne who wrote songs for other white guys (and gals) with acne. Warning is the sound of a band at a crossroads and if Billie Joe was going to have one last hoorah for the golden days of the 90s, might as well have it be this catchy and memorable. Top Tunes: (Warning, Waiting, Macy's Day Parade)
