The only known recording of a 1966 Beatles press conference, which includes the famous self defense of John Lennon against his "more popular than Jesus" statement a few months earlier, is set to be auctioned next month and fetch upwards of $20,000.
The press conference took place on August 17, 1966 in Toronto and features banter about how long the band would play ("It would be, ya know, a bit embarrassing at age 35"), Vietnam and the growing generation gap.
The tapes were recorded by a photojournalist and avid Beatles fan who tried to sell the tapes to no avail. Instead they gathered dust for over four decades and carry a $20,-$25,000 price tag.
